The core of betrayal is covetous self-advancement

This one is going up at N.O. and OoL but not elsewhere for two particular reasons … they are netiquette, plus security.

Netiquette used to demand attribution during the blogging era of about 2004 to around 2017, and it was pretty hotly self-policed by the community, backed by copyright law. You were generally allowed to quote sections, provided you attributed by name, plus you linked.

The greatest crime was to read something at someone’s blog, then it just appeared, later, as your own work, unattributed. When quizzed, you said you’d found it on the net elsewhere … thin because while you may technically have done so … wwweeellllll, let’s leave that.

The other reason is to protect your source, as you plan to use it over and over for other topics … so you separately bring him/her into it under various names but the really hot stuff you bury. In this, you’re colluding with your source … every journo protects his sources, every policeman used to, every lawyer.

Where you don’t know the source, then you can only quote and link:

One Less Of Your Kind Is A Good Thing

This is the grandstanding 'climate scientist' who will be sacked for refusing to fly home:
Many people have asked why it is so important for me to travel as low-carbon as possible.

And far, far more have said 'Who?'

I have three reasons. First, I want to be consistent with my moral commitment to avoid flying. Aviation is the biggest contributor to climate change of all forms of transport, a major factor in the rise in temperatures and the extreme weather events that we are witnessing more and more frequently all around the world.

Apart from that big ball of burning hydrogen in the sky, you mean?

Second, I promised all the 1,800 participants in my research in Bougainville that I would return low-carbon. I want to keep my promise. White men (of whom I am one, as I am frequently reminded here) are often referred to as giaman – liars, fraudsters in Tok Pisin – probably with good reason given the country’s turbulent colonial past. I do not want to be seen as giaman.

I wonder what the native's word for 'sucker!' is?

Finally, and most importantly, I hope my case might put a little crack into the wall of “selfishness, greed, and apathy”, which, in the words of climate lawyer Gus Speth, is the main hindrance to stopping runaway climate change. Many people will think that it is madness to give up their dream job to avoid taking one flight. But in the current era of climate breakdown, it is, in my opinion, insane to continue with “business as usual”, when science tells us that we are either dangerously close to or past the point of collapse for major ecosystems.

Yes, but the people who tell us that most often - the politicians and luvvies - aren't following your example, are they? They clearly don't believe what you claim. And with good reason.

At the time of writing, I am waiting to embark on the cargo ship on the first leg of my low-carbon journey to Europe. When I arrive in Europe in about 45 days, I will be jobless. If, on my way, I manage to persuade people that our planet is seriously endangered and that radical, extraordinary action is needed, losing my job will have been a price worth paying.

Our planet has lasted millenia, and will continue to do so. We'll adapt. Like we always have done. Those who can't? Well, they'll wind up like you.

Gird yourself, readers one and all

(0627 GMT +1) and still dark out there … returning to a previous theme …

… but imho a vital one … that of not being drawn into viewing horrors, certainly not constantly because the process is … feeling of horror, dismay, helplessness, have to have more, and then it branches two ways … you either become a snowflake, where the slightest stress and you go to pieces … or else you become inured, a monster, just like the perps.

The only right way is to note but never indulge, even when the first tendency is raging revenge, laying waste to villages as Anakin did in the film and John Kerry did for real.  In other words, the right thing is to stay this side of the line of sanity, put on your armour and face up to the foe … and if you think that sounds biblical … go to the top of the class.

Amfortas (our reader and former blogger) wrote and I asked if I could post the non- personal, general part.  He’d sent this afternoon’s musical piece (at N.O.) about a young lady cut down by disease, had noted his age … and hers:

Toodles (long time reader) also sent this about another child:

My Jacqueline……………..An Update

I have not mentioned this before, but I put my complaint regarding the wanton disregard for any decent treatment of my wife Jacqueline by the Hospital Trust to the Ombudsman: to see if they could wring a correct response from the Durham hospital, who sentenced my wife to death by virtue of a DNACPR notice.

The Ombudsman itself is suffering from a bad case of Covid-delay syndrome, with many months forecast for any decision to be arrived at, but I received notification that they have ‘partially’ upheld my complaint, and have told the Trust to apologise to me for the grief and anguish I sustained, now some two years ago.

I will advise on the outcome; but doubt if mere words will suffice.

The Word 'Could' Is Doing A Lot Of Heavy Lifting Here...

Foreigners who commit anti-Semitic or other hate crimes could lose their visas.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha! No, go on, tell us another!
Ministers are looking at stepping up deportations of hatemongers after a surge in incidents amid the Gaza conflict.

'Stepping up', eh? Well, that won't be too hard, since they've been dragging their feet for years.

Home Office officials are able to weigh up evidence against individuals and boot them out even if they have not been convicted but their presence in this country is still judged to be 'not conducive to the public good'.

Able they may be, but the crucial question is, are they willing...?

Labour's Sir Keir Starmer said there had been a 'disgusting rise' in anti-Semitism since the Hamas outrage along with an 'appalling surge' in Islamophobia with mosques 'forced to ramp up security'.

And that's just in your own ranks, eh?

The dilemma of the unherdable cats

Unherdable cats?  That's us, folks.  For what to be au fait beyond the normies if unable to combine?  Too many little chiefs like Hamilton and his NEC, all for power under him ... ditto Tice, ditto Lozza as he calls himself ... David Kurten is better ... Nigel is suspect on a number of counts ...

About the only one with a reason to claim leadership of the ragtag is Andrew Bridgen ... yet he truly seeks no higher office, being an issues man.

Who then? Kemi? Have to be kidding. Penny Mordor, aptly nicknamed Ms Empty Shell?

Also, the moment you define a set of policies, our natural tendency is a set of objections to this or that clause. Far better for us, policywise, not to be too specific at this stage ... we're strange bedfellows to be sure. Enough for us to be antiWoke for now and just have various leading lights.

Value in voting at all?  Well no, there isn't right now. And yet if we stay home, the very ones we're disgusted with raffle the "running of the country" between themselves.  The clueless normies continue to march for entirely the wrong things.

Sorry, chaps and chapesses ... we do need to combine and include disparate elements on this or that policy, in the interest of a vaguely antiWoke direction.

And that does require a leader. The only one currently in parlmt here is Andrew. We also have to sort out the name ... Reclaim, Reform, Brexit, UKIP. My strategy for now is to stroll into the polling station, have a look ... mentally dismiss any uniparty, any socialists by some other name ... then look at the independents ... who seems antiWoke? Whomever that is on the paper gets my vote.

Of course, are the Uniparty and its owners going to sit around and put up with being dispossessed? I suspect heinous events are about to overtake us in the dead of winter.

Trafalgar Day

While we're there ... the EU can get knotted.

Am I entitled to compensation from Twitter?

Am I entitled to compensation for wrongful removal, damage to reputation, i.e. defamation, plus restrictive trade practices by Twitter as it was in Dorsey days … over Fentanyl Floyd?

I was suspended from Twitter and offered an impossible set of conditions, which would involve me lying, preventing me from returning.  It was because I reposted … not wrote but reposted … an item by Emerald Robinson, stating that George Floyd did not die of asphyxiation but from complications of fentanyl.

If they refuse to listen ... shut the place down

When we walk too close to a swamp, a virulent one, the stench is overpowering.  Just have a look at some of these snippets from both sides of the pond:

Interesting ... reminds me of another swamp:

And one of those not bothering:

It really doesn't matter which house we speak of, in which so-called western nation ... it applies equally to both, to all:

Last word:

I'm Fine With This...

...so long as it only applies to pregnant eco-lunatics.
Women in childbirth are being offered an injection of water instead of the traditional 'gas and air' – in a bid to make the NHS more environmentally friendly.

It's a brave nurse or midwife who's going to suggest that nonsense to a woman in labour!

...the NHS has warned that using Entonox in Scotland is 'equivalent to 18,000 transatlantic flights'.

Scotland? Yes. You expect such insanity there. But you shouldn't expect it to stray this side of the border. surely?

The Scottish Government previously wrote to all health boards with a plan suggesting women should be discouraged from using Entonox for the good of the planet.

And yet...

Last week, watchdog the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) backed the use of sterile water in England.

*sighs*

However, during a consultation on the treatment, the Obstetric Anaesthetists' Association wrote: 'What possible biological plausible explanation is there for benefit with intracutaneous or subcutaneous injections of water in volumes of 0.1 to 0.4mls?
'Because it is cheap and unlikely to cause harm is an inadequate justification for a recommendation, especially as NICE does not recommend other similar non-pharmacological therapies such as acupuncture and hypnosis.'

I fear you're fighting a losing battle. I don't think biology is uppermost in the NHS anymore...
