But You're Not Like Them, Are You?

Shabana Mahmood, the home secretary, whose parents migrated to the UK from Pakistan, is facing the suggestion from a veteran Labour peer that she is “pulling up the drawbridge once inside” when considering the plight of refugee children trapped abroad.

A veteran Labour peer? Who could this be?

Alf Dubs, who came to the UK aged six in 1939 fleeing the persecution of Jews in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia, said the home secretary and other ministers had “kowtowed” to Nigel Farage’s Reform UK by preventing unaccompanied children from seeking refuge with UK-based family members.

Ah. I never paid much attention to the 'replacement theory' conspiraloons that aregue that that the Jews were behind mass immigration to the West, but really, how can I ignore it much longer?

Ministers have rejected attempts by Dubs and refugee charities to make it easier for children seeking asylum from abroad to apply to join family in the UK. Mahmood has said that more safe and legal routes will be opened for refugees once order and control has been restored to the UK’s borders.

But that's clearly not fast enough a plan for social destruction for this ingrate who the UK saved from death and made a peer of the realm. At least he was a genuine refugee whose life was in danger, and not simply an economic miragnt like most of the dhingy people. Can he really not see the difference?

In an interview with the Guardian, Dubs, who also served as MP for Battersea and as Northern Ireland minister during the Good Friday negotiations, said he was not surprised that home secretaries who were the children of migrants, such as Mahmood, Priti Patel, Suella Braverman and James Cleverly, had become hardline home secretaries.“Some people believe you pull up the drawbridge once you get inside. Politics is a tough old business. Some may want to demonstrate that they’re not going to just do things because of their background,” he said.

Maybe take that advice yourself, Alf?

Dubs, 93, was transported to the UK through the Kindertransport train, which he subsequently discovered had been organised by the Berlin-based stockbroker Sir Nicholas Winton. A Labour party member for more than 50 years, Dubs accused Starmer’s government of using asylum like a “political football” while courting voters on the right of the Conservative party and Reform.

I can't think of anything more likely to open the gates to a future Reform government than insisting we can take more fake 'refugees', given what some of them have done once they got their feet under the table. I suppose you have heard of Deng Chol Majek, Ahmed Alid, Lawangeen Abdulrahimzai, and Haybe Cabdiraxmaan Nur, Alf?

“I would like to see the government accept in principle that children who are abroad – asylum-seeking children who have got relatives with settled status here – should be allowed to join them. Not all claimants, but at least some of them
“I think we can show that we are not just kowtowing to Reform, as we have appeared to be, and we can show that we are moving in a different direction and can persuade the public to come with us.”

If you truly think that, you are more deluded than Kwier Smarmer himself, Alf.

Remember, Civil Serpents, The Name Of Your Department Is The HOME Office...

...not the Foreign Office. That's another department entirely:
Ellie Robinson was one of more than 150 students at Huddersfield University left in the lurch after a deal was struck between the Home Office and landlords to move asylum seekers into the HD1 building.
...
...the first-year international business student was horrified when, with no prior warning, she was told the bombshell news that her tenancy contract had been cancelled - just weeks before the start of term. Devastated Ellie was left in a state of panic as she and scores of other students scrambled to find last-minute replacement accommodation, in a fiasco branded as 'disgusting' by locals and a 'total mess' by Huddersfield's MP.

My sympathy is tempered a little by the fact that most of these students will be 'Refugees are welcome!' types, as indeed Ellie proves immediately:

Speaking about migrants taking over the tower block, she added: 'I get why they're doing this – they're doing it to better their lives. But it's a real inconvenience for students. There have to be other places they can do this.'

So, Ellie, if you decide to 'better your life', how will you do it? Get a good job and work hard, or invade another country and demand the people there provide you with everything free of charge?

The news outraged Labour's shadow immigration minister Stephen Kinnock who told LBC students were 'paying the price for the Government's reliance on emergency accommodation'.

You've got a brass neck a mile wide to claim that.

The Home Office said Britain was facing a huge demand from asylum seekers crossing the Channel.

Then stop them. Because if they are coming from France, a safe country, they aren't asylum seekers at all. And you know it.

Don't Blame The Tech, Blame The Idiots Working It...

The man, only identified as Mark by the New York Times, took pictures of his son’s groin to send to a doctor after realizing it was inflamed. The doctor used that image to diagnose Mark’s son and prescribe antibiotics. When the photos were automatically uploaded to the cloud, Google’s system identified them as CSAM.

As the system is programmed to do. But it's OK, because humans are in ch...

Two days later, Mark’s Gmail and other Google accounts, including Google Fi, which provides his phone service, were disabled over “harmful content” that was “a severe violation of the company’s policies and might be illegal”, the Times reported, citing a message on his phone.
He later found out that Google had flagged another video he had on his phone and that the San Francisco police department opened an investigation into him.

Oh.

Mark was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing, but Google has said it will stand by its decision.

Wait, what..?!?

“We follow US law in defining what constitutes CSAM and use a combination of hash matching technology and artificial intelligence to identify it and remove it from our platforms,” said Christa Muldoon, a Google spokesperson.

And when that proves to be in error, you...refuse to acknowledge it?

“These systems can cause real problems for people,” he said. “And it’s not just that I don’t think that these systems can catch every case of child abuse, it’s that they have really terrible consequences in terms of false positives for people. People’s lives can be really upended by the machinery and the humans in the loop simply making a bad decision because they don’t have any reason to try to fix it.

They need to be given one, then. Perhaps by passing a law that says if your software makes an error and you don't resolve it to the customer's satisfaction, you face huge, swinging fines?

It's Not The 'Cost Of Living'...

...because they aren't living:
A homeless charity has called on activists and supporters to march through Belfast on Saturday to protest against a sharp increase in the number of people dying on the streets of Northern Ireland’s capital.

And why are they dying? Because they are taking drugs and overdosing

McCusker, of the Social Democratic and Labour party (SDLP), said Belfast was not providing enough accommodation, addiction services and mental health treatment to handle the big increase in the number of young homeless people. Many mixed heroin and other opiates with other drugs, he said. “Most people we work with take a cocktail of drugs, which puts them at greater risk.”
The cost of living was having a “massive” impact on homelessness, McCusker added.

Aren't drugs and alcohol pretty expensive? And if you spend all your money on those, you've not got enough for rent?

Extern has urged policymakers to open an overdose prevention facility – a designated place for people to take drugs under the supervision of trained staff, who provide drug treatment, mental health services, wound care and blood testing.

Great! When do they open a fake supermarket, so all the compulsive shoplifters can get their supervised 'fix'? Or allow predators to target schoolgirls under the eyes of the authorities and poli...

Oh, wait. They've already done that one, haven't they?

Education, Education, Education..?

Boxer Amir Khan has thanked the Metropolitan Police for helping with his case after they charged three men in with stealing his £72,000 watch at gunpoint.
Yesterday the police charged Ahmed Bana, 25, Nurul Amin, 24, and Dante Campbell, 20, over the incident on April 18.

Amazing that the police caught them, but then they weren't the sharpest tools in the drawer...rather like their victim:

Speaking after the charges were announced, the Olympic medallist tweeted: ‘I would like to thank the Metropolitan Police.
'They were always in communication with me & Sadiq Khan for pushing this case on his end.
Gun culture is on the increase in the UK, and we need to educate our youth to stay away from this.’

Wait, what? 'Gun culture'..? Who on earth is this moron trying to kid? It's not 'gun culture' that's the issue here, it's gang culture. It's the 'why should I bother getting a job when I can prey on others?' culture.

It wasn't even a real gun, FFS!

Scotland Yard said the three suspects, all from north London, have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
Bana and Campbell have also been charged with possession of an imitation firearm.
Campbell has also been charged with possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.

Someone who buys ammunition for a fake gun is beyond educating, wouldn't you say?
