'The whole idea is just to make driving unpleasant...'

Road lanes across the country are to become narrower to stop cars overtaking cyclists as part of a new war on motorists, The Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Likely to be far more successful than Labour's new war on asylum seekers, since no backbenchers will rebel against it...

Official guidance quietly published last week on the Government's website states that the standard width of a road lane in Britain – which for almost 150 years has been 12ft – is no longer appropriate because of the safety risk posed to cyclists. Instead, lanes on local roads should either shrink no more than 10ft 8in wide or expand to at least 12ft 10in. Critics say space constraints in towns and cities mean they are far more likely to shrink.

This isn't something the government itself is persuing, it's outsourced it to another celebrity-helmed quango in an attempt to pretend its hands are clean...

The guidance, which was drawn up by Active Travel England (ATE), a Government agency, will be applied to billions of pounds of future road building schemes, the MoS has learnt. Local authorities which defy the recommendations could see reduced transport funding.

It's yet more activist-driven nonsense with no thought given to the colatteral damage it will produce, slowing down deliveries and snaring emergency vehicles in gridlock.

ATE's guidance follows a change to the Highway Code in 2022, which instructed drivers to leave space of at least 5ft when overtaking cyclists. ATE, which is led by former Olympic cyclist Chris Boardman, says motorists using a standard 12ft-wide traffic lane 'may try to overtake cyclists when there is not enough space', increasing the risk of collisions.

You know what else increases the risk of collisions, Chris? Cyclists acting like twats! Maybe crack down on that first, eh?

The Department for Transport said claims that ATE is waging a war on motorists 'are false and misrepresent the guidance'.

'Our hands are clean, we got a proxy doing it for us'.

They CAN Be Quick When They Want To...

A constant complaint of police accounts on Twitter is that the IOPC take ages to reach a conclusion, and the pressure this puts officers under, in some cases leading to suicide.

Well, not always:

Police officers who accidentally shot and killed a cancer survivor in the Manchester synagogue attack will face no charges of misconduct. Adrian Daulby, 53, was hit by a stray bullet at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in Crumpsall last Thursday morning. He was among those bravely attempting to keep the doors of the worship centre closed during Syrian-born Jihad Al-Shamie's, 35, deadly rampage.

My, that was a speedy investigation, wasn't it, Reader? Am I the only one to find it suspiciously quick?.

The police conduct investigation looked into the injuries of two men, both inside the synagogue at the time, who appeared to have been injured when officers fired their weapons.Welcoming the IOPC's finding, Sir Stephen Watson, Chief Constable, Greater Manchester Police said the force had been 'inundated with messages of thanks and support for the actions that our brave officers took to prevent further harm to our Jewish community'.

They killed the same number of people as the terrorist. Just think on that.

Sir Stephen pledged to work with the IOPC on previous complaints of rape and harassment it has received against Al-Shamie. The IOPC said its finding would remain 'under review' as its investigation continues.

Welcome to Britain, were an allegation of rape sees you given bail, while the really dangerous suspected criminals are banged up on remand

Oh, and they didn't just shoot one innocent person - they shot two, and it's pure luck he wasn't killed too.

Another man, Yoni Finlay was also reportedly shot while trying to barricade the door, according to his family. The 35-year-old was hit in the chest and is now recovering after having undergone major surgery last night, his 15-year-old son, Uriel, said. Speaking to ITV News, the teenager - who was at home asleep during the terror attack - said: 'I spoke to Rabbi Walker, he told me that he and my dad barricaded the doors with a couple of other people and, in the process of the armed police shooting the terrorist, one of the bullets hit my dad in the chest
'He was shot accidentally by a bullet that went through the door.'

That 'when seconds count, the police are minute away' can be put into perspective now...as can the assurances that they are 'highly trained and competent professional marksmen'

Still Clapping, Are We?

Matthew Charnock, 35, was rushed to Whiston Hospital after being smashed over the head with an iron wheel brace by jealous Steven Cotterill. But despite Mr Charnock appearing extremely confused and bleeding heavily from a head wound, nurses failed to order a CT scan and instead patched up the cut and sent him home with painkillers.
Envy of the world, am I right?
Mr Charnock was found unresponsive the next day and taken back to hospital where medics discovered he had a serious skull fracture and was suffering from sepsis and meningitis. He underwent surgery but could not be saved. Last week Coroner Jacqueline Devonish ruled Mr Charnock was unlawfully killed and that his death was contributed to by neglect by triage nurse Stephanie Keelan and emergency nurse practitioner Paul O’Brien, who failed to order the scan which would have saved his life.

And the coroner was in no doubt about the potential outcome if the NHS 'workers' had done their job. But they weren't the only ones who's performance was less than it should have been.

Following a three-week trial at Chester Crown Court, Cotterill, then 39, was convicted of Mr Charnock’s manslaughter and jailed for seven years.

And his 'accomplices' in the ER? What about them?

Nurse O’Brien was also investigated and interviewed by police, who found Mr Charnock’s treatment to be ‘sub-optimal.’ But the nurse was never charged after the Crown Prosecution Service decided there was no realistic prospect of convicting him of gross negligence manslaughter.

Some play the game. Some quit half way through. Some never even get off the bench at all.
