Seems Some Are Allergic To Plain Speaking Too...

The owner of a burger restaurant who tells his staff to turn away customers with food allergies has defended his policy as 'extremely fair'. Jeff Taylor, who owns Bun X, which operates out of two pubs in Norwich, received a wave of criticism and a handful of one-star reviews after refusing to serve customers with food allergies, even if they were willing to take the risk. He said that Bun X is unable to cater for anyone with a gluten, nut, soya or sesame allergy and asks customers to inform staff about allergies in advance of their booking.

And predictably there’s OUTRAGE! at such plain speaking from the people who demand that their every whim are catered for.

However, Mr Taylor has addressed the bad reviews, telling BBC Radio Norfolk that 'we are not being pedantic, we are being extremely fair'.
Due to the size of the kitchen, he said the business had to make 'tricky decisions' after 'due diligence concluded that there is no safe way to 100% eradicate cross contamination'.

So as any business has the right to (or should have) he decided he wouldn’t take that risk. And so wouldn’t serve these people.

One person wrote: 'If you have a food allergy and you want to eat there, don't bother, they won't serve you. Was felt like I had a disease of something.'
Another person with a nut allergy said they were 'flat out refused service' despite accepting the risk, and that business's stance is 'not an acceptable one'.

They seem eager to paint their tantrum as some sort of ‘civil rights’ issue of discrimination as they’ve undoubtedly learned that that makes people give in. But Mr Taylor is made of sterner stuff:

In response to the Google review about the family that was asked to leave because of a nut allergy, Mr Taylor replied:'However, you are so concerned that your daughter is allergic to nuts that YOU mention it to us! So your review should read, 'Gutted I chanced it and dragged my family out for dinner. Luckily for us the compassionate pros at Bun X are on the ball and protected my daughter!''

Perfect! There is no right to a burger, you aren’t Rosa Parkes, go home and eat there, where you can guarantee what you are putting in your mouth.

This Nonsense Is Why Why We Have 'Contains Nuts' Warnings On Packets Of Nuts...

A Dublin woman was fatally electrocuted while holding a charging mobile phone in a bath last year, an inquest has heard.

🤦‍♀️

Her husband, Joe O’Gorman, expressed concern that many people are being lulled into “a false illusion of safety” by mobile phone manufacturers that promote that their equipment is waterproof.

It is, but there’s a reason you don’t have electrical outlets in bathrooms! So how was she charging it? Glad you asked:

He outlined how a three-metre extension cable had been plugged into a socket in the bedroom. Mr O’Gorman complained that there is no warning on certain phones about the danger of coming into contact with water while being charged.

Why would there be? There’s no warning on my oven that sticking my head in it and turning on the gas isn’t a good idea either!

Mr O’Gorman told the inquest he wants the message to go out about the hazard created by charging a mobile phone in bathrooms.

No need, Joe, we already know this!

He said warnings about such a hazard should be displayed prominently on the outside of packaging of all electronic devices.
“The only thing you hear about is how these phones are great in up to six feet of water. It gives people the idea that you can have your phone near water,” said Mr O’Gorman.

And you can! It wasn’t the shock she got from the phone, it was the cable connected to the National Grid that did for her!

Headlines For Our Times...

Melissa Mathieson was strangled by Jason Conroy at Alexandra House, which provides residential care for adults with autism and Asperger's syndrome, in Bristol in 2014.

Yes, Reader, that's right. Nine years ago...

Conroy, now aged 27, was jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum term of 19 years for the killing. Bristol Crown Court heard that Alexandra Homes (Bristol) Ltd was charged with an offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 last year following a lengthy investigation.

They aren't kidding with that 'lengthy'...

Hours before her death, Miss Mathieson had complained to staff that Conroy was stalking her. Mr Sapiecha told the court that the company had failed in its duty to keep residents safe after being given information about the danger Conroy posed, including a report from psychiatrist Dr Hilary Grant. 'It cannot be said there was no warning at all,' he said.

In almost all of these cases, that's the case. There's plenty of warning, it hardly ever comes out of the blue. And yet, these supposed 'professionals' fail time after time.

Andrew Langdon KC, defending, said the company had been trading for nearly 20 years and had an enviable reputation in the industry.

Yes, the key there is 'had'
