The darling buds of the Larkins
https://rolfnorfolk.substack.com/p/the-darling-buds-of-freedom
‘Do you wish to be swallowed by the Continent? We have been an island for all time, haven’t we? Hasn’t it served us well? Isn’t it our strength, our salvation? Wasn’t it that that saved us during the war? The sea is our defence, isn’t it? Do you want to see it destroyed? […] Do you want us to lose sovereignty?’
We may not have wanted it, but thanks to the dictatorial oddball Ted Heath we got it in 1973, and we stayed in thanks to the pushmi-pullyu Harold Wilson, who led opposition to membership while in Opposition but persuaded us to confirm it by referendum when he was in power two years later, threatening us with shortages of ‘FOOD and MONEY and JOBS’.
All that may be true but one of the strongest arguments of the Remoaners and Globos is … you want sovereignty for your little isles, do you? Under people like Heath, Wilson, Major, Bliar, Brown? That sort of “leadership”? Call Me Dave, Mendacious May, Bumbling Boris, Lizzy Truss, Crowned Globo Sunpak?
What say you? Starmer? Corbyn? Cleggover?

Are Race Grifters A 'Community' Now..?
The British Film Institute is embroiled in a court action against a Black Lives Matter activist over an alleged £216,000 sponsorship debt. Alisha Hall, 41, and her Hall Media Group Limited are subject of a winding-up petition launched by the BFI over the large sum it says is missing.
Gosh, how unprecedented!
At the time BFI announced of the 65th festival: 'This year we were joined for the first time by The Liberation Initiatives as Main Partner, who supported a number of key programmes and helped in our continued efforts to make LFF more inclusive to underrepresented communities.'
Ah. if only you'd done a bit of due diligence before jumping into bed for the woke kudos...
The Liberation Initiatives calls itself 'a force for systematic change against the social & economic disadvantages faced by marginalised communities'. It was founded in the aftermath of George Floyd's death in America.
There's something I need here in my....Ah!
Got it!

A Climate Of Fear...
The customer, who asked not to be named, said: "I was recently at Fortes and noticed they have a figurine of a monkey depicted as a human being begging for money. I believe they used it for tips."
So..?
"Given the heightened issue in the pub in the UK displaying golly dolls, and the fact that these types of caricatures are racist towards black people, I asked to speak to the manager about it but they were not there.
"A member of staff seemed to be indifferent about the figurine saying it was just decor. It is highly offensive."
Why do I get the feeling this customer isn't themselves any kind of minority? Except of the sort that get their kicks from taking offense on behalf of others, and bullying people?
Of course, sadly, though they are a minority, people are ceding them the power to act out of all proportion with their numbers...
“I am very glad the owners have since decided to remove the figure. It’s really important that we reflect on how welcoming and inclusive our environments are here in the south west to people of all backgrounds.”
/facepalm
Claire Heard, who runs the cafe with her husband Andy, said: "We would never endorse the use of any item which may have racist connotations as we take this very seriously. The figure of a monkey business card holder was removed as soon as the gentleman mentioned it may cause offence.
"We invite the gentleman to contact us directly for us to apologise further if he wishes and we thank him for his comments."
This kind of reflexive cringing is bound to encourage every Tom, Dick and Karen to have a go at anything they deem 'offensive', so thanks for that Claire...

Of Course It Is, Sweetie...
The star of Netflix's much-talked about 'Queen Cleopatra' docudrama says the furore over her casting as the Egyptian ruler is 'fundamentally racist'.#
Pulling out the RaceCard™ is the automatic reflex, after all...
Adele addressed the the high-profile criticism around being a black actress playing Cleopatra, saying: 'It would be naive of me to say that I didn't expect anything at all, but I didn't expect the scale of it.
'And I think it's distressing for anybody to receive any level of abuse, let alone the scale and the nature of what I've received, which is fundamentally racist, all of it.
'People are talking about the wrong things. Yes, we don't know where her mother was from or her paternal grandmother, but also the show is about so much more than the question mark over her race.'
You don't get to dictate what people talk about. And by casting you, that's what the makers of this show have done. No-one else did it. So you're perpetuating it.
'If you watch it is a very small part of the conversation really, this is about the fullness of who this woman was and she was a human being and she shouldn't be reduced to her race any more than I should or anybody should.'
You've guaranteed it, actually.
Adele also talked about the support of Hollywood actress Jada Pinkett Smith, who narrates the series and is its executive producer.
'She is an African Queen and I feel like it just couldn't be more pertinent and important that she's the figurehead of this. She's an icon.'
She's not African, she's not a queen either. What she is, is a Hollywood elite who knows exactly what she's doing to get her show watched. That it'll be for the wrong reasons matters not a jot, does it?

Sit-rep from our man in France
"During their meeting in Paris on May 14, 2023, the Presidents of Ukraine and the French Republic issued the following statement:
The Presidents of Ukraine and France reaffirmed their unequivocal condemnation of Russia's current war of aggression against Ukraine. Ukraine has shown remarkable determination in exercising its inherent right to self-defence against this unprovoked and unprovoked attack. Russia must withdraw all of its military forces from the territory of Ukraine, within its internationally recognized borders, immediately, completely and unconditionally.

Do We Need Any More Evidence Of The 'Long March'..?
Prison officers have been ordered to stop calling criminals 'convicts' on the grounds it is 'offensive'.
Civil servants at the Prison Service headquarters have also instructed warders to drop the phrase 'ex-con' for former prisoners - and refer to them as 'persons with lived experience' or 'prison leavers'.
So, if you haven't been to prison, you haven't lived? Hmmm...
Another prisons source said: 'This is real nanny state stuff. Yet again, do-gooding civil servants are spending their working hours trying to manipulate the English language to fit their personal world view, rather than concentrating on things that really matter.
'While they are sending out diktats about 'persons with lived experience', the jails are full to bursting, prison officers are leaving in droves and crime is at a record high.'
All part of the plan, no doubt!
Tory MP Craig Mackinlay described the Prison Service's latest intervention as 'nonsense'.
Yes, it is. What does Sunak and his cronies plan to do about it?
He added: 'This new agenda that has taken hold right across government departments has to stop. It is not respected by the public. It's just pure nonsense.'
Anything at all? Or does rooting it out get filed in the 'too much like hard work' column?
