Well, Don't Buy It Then!

Menopause campaigner Kate Muir is upset at health food giant Holland & Barratt:
'Joking aside, we need to recognise this as a hormone deficiency which is very serious. There is a peak in suicide among women in perimenopause. Women need to know they can go to the NHS and get proper help, rather than relying on chocolate bars.'

Have you seen the state of the NHS love? The choccy bar is easier to obtain!

The health food giant claims the sweet treat, which contains a woman's entire daily allowance of saturated fat, soothes menopause symptoms and provides 'mood support'. Instructions on the pack say each 75g bar contains 'one daily dose', adding: 'We suggest splitting it in two and having one half in the morning and one in the evening.
'They boast that it contains vitamin B6, which is naturally present in almonds, claiming it 'contributes to the regulation of hormonal activity'.

Menopause is a totally natural process. Why are so many women desperate to try to stop it?

Social media users raged at Holland & Barrett. One person re-labelled the product as 'depression support almonds for men', writing: 'Do you think they'll be duped into buying it?'Another said the snack was 'insulting to the female race'.

Oh, good grief!

  2. Indeed, menopause is a perfectly natural stage in the life of any woman, just as declining testosterone and lack of "stiffness" is for men as they age.

In my 60s now, on the other side so to speak, it's not actually a bad place to be.

I still look at young girls of course, and will do so as long as I have eyes, but no longer feel the need to try and get inside their pants (I have to confess I wasn't the most successful at that!)

But I do appreciate genuine femininity more, a lot more (alas it's getting rarer)

And my whole outlook on life is more laid back and relaxed.

I'm no longer a prisoner of meme DNA or my hormones and can live life according to my higher brain functions (finally!)

I appreciate that the menopause can be an ordeal but isn't this just making it worse?

  3. I was going to suggest medicinal quantities of Amaretto, but I see that it is not always made with almonds.
    Still worth a try though.

  5. HRT keeps your bones intact and your body supple. It protects your hair and enables your mind to function as before (untreated menopause can cost you quite a few IQ points!) and keeps depression at bay and your skin soft and smooth. And it stops the hot flushes.

But getting it from chocolate/soya/whathave you is silly and there is not going to be enough estrogen in reliable quantities to keep you plush.

Menopause is a natural process, but so is migraine and cancer. The tough out the 'natural menopause' stuff is a classic woolly sock lady philosophy, usually peddled by women who think that one can get 'too old' for long hair and who smell of elderberries.

(And men should also get Testorone supplement for all of the reasons why women should.)

  7. So, women are a race now, are they? I never knew that; well, you learn something new every day, I suppose.
