This Should Not Be A Surprise, Should It?

The ban on buying new petrol cars after 2030 will not be enough to meet green targets because polluting vehicles bought today are 'very likely' to still be in use, the RAC Foundation has said.

Well, of course they will! And why? Because we're making better cars

Vehicles have become less prone to corrosion and serious mechanical failure, while the cost-of-living crisis has made buying a car less affordable, even preowned.

What does the RAC suggest? Scrapping the ridiculous green targets, perhaps?

That would be sensible, wouldn't it? That would be what your members surely want, wouldn't it?

The RAC Foundation has urged the government to encourage new car buyers to go electric, or at least choose a vehicle with low emissions.

Oh. 'More of the same'. So much for representing your members interests...

Electric cars can cost less to run and most experts agree that they are better for the planet.

And where do they find these 'experts'..?

  1. They are looking after their bonuses. More EVs, more batteries empty of charge, more calls-out to recharge with a petrol fuelled generator, etc.

  2. The experts are those with shares in EV companies.

  3. I expect ever more punitive regimes in order to encourage fossil fuelled cars off the road, leading to an actual ban on the sale of fossil fuel. How quickly the fuel duty ramps up, or fossil fuelled vehicles are denied access to towns and cities or how soon the sale of fossil fuels will be banned is all to be decided. But I suspect it will be sooner rather than later.
Sad to say that other fossil fuel users will be left by the wayside. Boat users, for instance will have to change to electric propulsion with very little development of powertrains and very little research into safety margins when at sea, etc.
But of course the evil CO2 must be reduced at all costs, the cult of climate says so.

    1. Oh, yes, and also to 'encourage' take up of those wretched 'green' boilers. If the mouldy carrots isn't proving palatable, there's always the stick.

  4. Annoyingly I've just renewed by RAC membership or another year. I'm not going to cancel it but will make sure I don't automatically renew next year and let them know why.

  5. RAC = Really Awful C***s
Please stop referring to petroleum as a fossil fuel - it isn't. Coal is, but oil, as anyone with a modicum of scientific knowledge knows, is produced deep in the Earth's crust and is being 'made' all the time. The absurd, inaccurate and unscientific plans to phase out the Earth's gift to humanity will be quietly dropped as we get nearer to the 2030 cut-off date.
Notice how during the much reduced car and lorry activities during two bloody years of unnecessary panic reactions to just-another-flu produced no change in global CO2, showing to anyone awake that it's not a or the problem!
