News broke late on Thursday evening that the prime minister was planning a hike in national insurance (NI) to fund social care. The TPA media team immediately sprang into action and just minutes later we had fired off a press release to the nation's journalists.
We were soon fielding many calls and emails from journalists which resulted in no fewer than six broadcasts appearances on Friday. It's fair to say the TaxPayers' Alliance dominated the airwaves as we led the charge against this tax rise.
A rise of just 1 per cent in national insurance means that someone earning £20,000 will pay an extra £104 in tax every year. That could rise to over £200 if the health secretary Sajid Javid gets his way and a larger rise is implemented.
I'm not talking longterm tax and NI contributors, not talking pension earners, not talking private occupational pension holders, I'm talking about the new freeloaders the money's being thrown at. Can't say any more as OoL will be in trouble.
James, coincidentally, I have just replied to the Taxpayers Alliance on their latest missive.
ReplyDeleteThe issue in my view isn't that Mr Sinai needs to tweak taxes to find the money to pay for his bright ideas. There needs to be an aggressive reform of all of our public bodies from the Civil Service to the Local Authorities.
My rough calculation is that the 450,000 strong Civil Service costs us around £20 billion each year. Why are so many sucking on the public teat?
Halve the number and save £10 billion. It would also free up people to fill the expected vacancies in the health care sector without importing any more of the unwanted.
Further savings in my view could be made by reducing the number of MPs by half and reducing the size of the House of Lords to say 100.
And of course halving, if not stopping, the give away of our money to foreigners could save another £6 billion or so.
The government's plan should be to reduce our tax burden and that can only be achieved by drastically reducing the size of the public sector and the amount of our money given to people who have done nothing to deserve it.
Correction, again:
ReplyDeleteSunak, not Sinai.
