Oxford University’s new professor of LGBTQ+ history has accused the government of “fanning a culture war” over freedom of speech, insisting it is alive and well in higher education.
But wait! What on earth is 'a professor of LGBTQ+ history', anyway?
Matt Cook, who was this week named as the first Jonathan Cooper chair of the history of sexualities, a newly created post at Mansfield College...
Oh...
Cook said the issue had been blown out of proportion and there were only a “tiny fraction” of cases where speakers were cancelled.
Gosh, imagine someone saying that about immigrant murderers, or 'hate crimes'. He'd be lucky to get out of town alive!
“So my sense is that it’s not a huge problem. I think the issue has been blown out of proportion. I also think there’s some political expediency in this. It’s a way of fanning a culture war. I don’t think we need additional protections for free speech in the university. Free speech is pretty alive and well.”
No-one ever thinks they need protection when they are saying exactly what everyone in their tiny circle agrees with...
“The trans people I know currently are facing real daily prejudice that’s misogynistic, transphobic. And I think we need to think very seriously about how we allow everybody in this country to have a livable life, and that includes trans people. ”
I won't bother asking exactly what 'rights' trans men and women are lacking, because it's something that never gets a satisfactory answer...
My first thought was "Not much history to pontificate about."
ReplyDeleteBut then I thought of Gomorrah and that other place.
Ooddles of boodle.
My first thought was "Sod 'em"

Delete"Professor" of absolute smug, arrogant belief in their own "moral" superiority more like.
ReplyDeleteWhat "rights" are they lacking?
Well, anything that involves spite against normal people
“I won't bother asking exactly what 'rights' trans men and women are lacking, because it's something that never gets a satisfactory answer…”
ReplyDeleteEverything leftists, of whatever stripe, demand comes down eventually to the simple fact that they … want to be women (that’s the traditional version – where they were effectively dependant adult-children, sound familiar? ‘Plus’ the fictitious modern version, where they keep all those privileges and just add on the pretence of ‘equality’ just without all that icky responsibility or consequences).
Women were/are always protected, provided for, privileged and given special ‘extra’ preferential treatment, power and rights not for anything they did/do, but just for being ‘what’ they were/are. Now tell me that doesn’t state ‘exactly’ what every leftist from Marx onward has demanded for themselves.
It was firstly the blacks, then the gays wanting, demanding and getting the self-same extra ‘rights’ that women had (Verruca-like) whined and had never-ending tantrums about enough to be given (unearned).
It’s nothing new, and to be brutally honest it’s only apparently noteworthy and being complained about now because … it’s threatening all those special privileges (preferences and funding) women have enjoyed forever (and because people might start questioning the ‘whole’ hypocritical edifice and ‘that’ could end the gravy-train for all of them, for good).
So? Is it really a surprise that the extreme of the left are now represented by delusional men who, having realised that even with socialisms ‘equality’ they still only manage a fraction of what women are given as matter of course (and still whine they are subjugated and discriminated against) and so … they’ve decided the only way to ‘have it all’ is ... to ‘be’ women too.
It's no surprise at all, sadly. The only surprise is how quickly it's spread...
