The value of a blog is not, IMHO, in irreconcilable diversity of opinion because all that comes out of that is blogfighting, trolling, mucho ad hominem, deleting and blocking - what an utter waste of time. We see it at Breitbart, we see it at most sites - in come the trolls, often paid, and that's the end of any viable discussion.
Think it's fair to say though that writers and regular readers at OoL all detest this current Wokery going on, this cancel culture, this lockdown mania, this paedo thing - what connects us is our dissident anti-Wokery and that can cut across the old political lines ... we're vaguely in this dissident frame of mind, demanding our freedoms be protected because without those, we're gone.
Having said that, we do come at things from different angles, we don't agree on all the others' policy positions within this vague political sphere we find ourselves in.
In my case, I have particular angles at my blog and it's unrealistic for me to come here and post contrary to those angles, ditto with Julia and hers, ditto with Grandpa and Churchmouse.
The solution is simple - set up a way which does not have to involve signing up with Google system but is free enough that you could send a piece of any length with as many or as few links as you deem necessary, send it to one of us, we put it up, within our house rules, as Guestposter.
Could be once in a blue moon, could be whenever you feel the need to let off steam. This is beyond formal signing up - to get an idea what I mean, look at my site's comments section and then I take those and post them later as a post. It's something as open as that I'm getting at.
There are two other things need saying. First is that prolific bloggers know it takes a fair bit to upkeep a blog, it's not to everyone's taste but if you want to say more than you can tweet and yet not be tied down - then this idea might be for you, halfway between tweeting and blogging.
The last point is about give and take. Our moderator here at OoL is Julia - there are laws they will clobber us with, we do need to use our brains a bit in what we can get away with, there has to be a certain amount of goodwill going on here, we have to treat it with a light touch at our end but if something can't be for legal reasons or it's anathema to our stance on freedom, it can't be.
Within that very vague framework, if you're a regular and you'd like to rattle something off, email one of us and let's do it. It may lead to other things.
